Ingrid Andress: "I'm checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night."
Country music singer-songwriter Ingrid Andress has taken a courageous step, checking herself into a rehab facility after admitting she was intoxicated during her national anthem performance at the MLB Home Run Derby.
The 32-year-old singer went viral on social media following her Monday night (July 15) performance at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, where fans criticized her pitch, labeling it one of the "worst national anthem renditions ever."
On Tuesday afternoon (July 16), Andress addressed the situation on social media and acknowledged her devoted fandom.
"I'm not gonna bullshit y'all, I was drunk last night," she wrote on Instagram. "I'm checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition."
Andress continued, "I'll let y'all know how rehab is. I hear it's super fun. Xo, Ingrid."
Despite the backlash over her a cappella rendition, many social media users rallied behind her on Tuesday, expressing support for her decision to seek help.
"Love you girl. I'm sorry you're going through this, and I'm sorry the world can be so cruel. Here for you xx," wrote Julia Michaels. "I'm sending you love, Ingrid. Being this open takes a lot. You've got this. Hang in there," added Carly Pearce.
Maren Morris, Lucy Hale, Catherine Powell, Kristin Chenoweth, and more also voiced their support.
Speculation had been circulating about Andress' condition during her performance at Globe Life Field, with many noting that her off-key rendition seemed highly unusual for the accomplished singer-songwriter. Comparisons were quickly drawn to other infamous national anthem performances, such as Fergie's 2018 NBA All-Star Game rendition and Roseanne Barr's 1990 version at a Padres game.
"I owe Fergie a huge apology," said a fan.
The singer-songwriter is a four-time Grammy nominee and is best known for her hit single "Wishful Drinking" with Sam Hunt and her 2020 smash hit "Lady Like." Her collaboration with Hunt sored to the top of the charts, peaking at No.47 and spending 20 consecutive weeks there.
Fans believe the incident was out of character for the respected hitmaker, as the country community has always valued her singing abilities. Fans are supportive of her choice to seek help, hoping for her swift return to the stage with renewed vigor. Despite knowing her usual talent, they fear this incident could overshadow her career, lingering in public memory.
Andress was scheduled to release her upcoming single, "Colorado 9," on July 24. The highly anticipated track will touch upon her struggles with depression following the severance of some early career relationships. It is unclear if the vocalist will move forward with the release date and share the track.
