Kelsea Ballerini and Adam Levine narrow their teams to two in a night full of standout performances and shocking eliminations.
It was decision time on Monday night’s (April 28) episode of The Voice as Kelsea Ballerini and Adam Levine faced the pressure of the Season 27 Playoffs. Each coach had to narrow their five-member teams down to just two artists who would advance to the Semi-Finals — and while it seemed like some decisions might be clear-cut, the night proved once again that nothing on The Voice is ever predictable.
Team Kelsea Ballerini took the stage first, and the competition was fierce. Iris Herrera kicked things off with a rock-charged performance of Chris Stapleton’s "White Horse," exuding confidence and a stage presence that felt more headliner than hopeful. Jaelen Johnston followed with a moving take on Tim McGraw’s "If You’re Reading This," delivering a heartfelt, emotional performance that showcased his growth since the Knockouts.
Alanna Lynise then stunned the crowd with her rendition of SZA’s "Nobody Gets Me," navigating the complex ballad with remarkable ease and emotional depth. Tinika Wyatt raised the bar even higher with a pristine performance of "I Can Only Imagine," marrying technical perfection with raw passion that had the audience captivated. Darius J rounded out the team with a lively, party -ready version of "Hey Ya!," bringing plenty of energy — but in a night filled with powerhouse vocals, he faced tough competition.
In the end, Ballerini advanced Iris Herrera and Alanna Lynise to the Semi-Finals, sending Jaelen Johnston, Tinika Wyatt, and Darius J home. The choices sparked some surprise among fans, especially after Jaelen’s strong showing and Tinika’s emotional powerhouse performance.
Next, Team Adam Levine stepped into the spotlight. Lucia Flores-Wiseman immediately set a high bar with her cover of "In My Life," her vocal control and emotional connection making for a stunning, standout moment. Conor James took a risk with Chappell Roan’s "Pink Pony Club," bringing a gentle touch to the opening but struggling to maintain energy as the song built.
Kolby Cordell’s take on Bruno Mars' "Finesse" brought undeniable charisma to the stage, though his vocals showed some inconsistency. Ethan Eckenroad impressed with a haunting rendition of Lord Huron’s "The Night We Met," his performance packed with a raw, aching vulnerability. Britton Moore wrapped up the set with Keane’s "Somewhere Only We Know," showing flashes of promise, though his nerves were evident.
Adam ultimately moved forward with Lucia Flores-Wiseman and Kolby Cordell, while Conor James, Ethan Eckenroad, and Britton Moore were eliminated. As with Kelsea's team, the decisions raised eyebrows — particularly Adam’s choice to send home the emotionally resonant Ethan Eckenroad in favor of Kolby’s more energetic but uneven performance.
As the Playoffs continue next week with John Legend and Michael Bublé making their cuts, Monday’s episode was a clear reminder: on The Voice, expect the unexpected — and never underestimate how much heart, strategy, and gut instinct go into every decision.
