Miley Cyrus is stepping back into the blonde wig — well, sort of.

Nearly two decades after Hannah Montana first premiered on Disney Channel, the pop superstar has confirmed she's working on a project to celebrate the show's 20th anniversary in 2026. While she has made it clear that it won't be a full-on reboot, fans are already deep into their theories, and the internet is buzzing with excitement over what's to come.

"It's crazy to think that I started as a character that I thought was going to be impossible to shed, but now that's something that when I walk into a space, it's looked at as this sense of kind of, like, nostalgia or something that you have from your childhood," Cyrus shared during a recent interview on SiriusXM. "I've now been integrated into everyone's life as the character itself."

The hitmaker continued to elaborate on her vision and how she plans to celebrate the massive milestone.

"I want to design something really, really special for it," she explained. "Because it really was the beginning of all of this."

Hannah Montana, which premiered in 2006, followed Miley Stewart – a regular California teen living a secret life as an international pop star. The show quickly became a cultural phenomenon, launching then-13-year-old Cyrus into superstardom and turning her fictional alter ego into a global icon. However, as Cyrus grew up, her relationship with the character grew more complicated. From controversial performances to public efforts to distance herself from her squeaky-clean Disney past, the star made it clear she was ready to move on.

Still, the connection never fully disappeared. At the 2023 D23 Expo, Cyrus was honored as the youngest-ever Disney Legend and gave credit where it was due.

"I stand here still proud to have been Hannah Montana because she made Miley in so many ways," she said in her emotional acceptance speech. "This award is dedicated to Hannah and all of her amazing, loyal fans, and to evryone who has made my dream a reality. To quote the legend herself, 'This is the life.'"

Now that she's embracing her roots again, fans are hoping for the ultimate throwback. Some believe Cyrus may rerecord classic Hannah Montana hits like "Nobody's Perfect," "Rockstar," or "The Best of Both Worlds" – especially since she can now legally perform them following her Disney Legend induction. Others are dreaming up a surprise concert, a merch drop, or even a documentary filled with never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage.

"She better give us a one-night-only tour with the wig and everything," one fan joked on X. Another wrote, "Honestly, just give me a rerecorded Meet Miley Cyrus and I'll cry happy tears for a week."

As for a full series reboot or cast reunion? That's unlikely. Emily Osment (Lilly) and other original cast members have expressed hesitation about returning.
